What to Do if Your Family Member Was Arrested and Is Being Held at Weber County Jail

People who are arrested in Weber County are detained at the Weber Correctional Facility, better known as the Weber County Jail.  If your loved one is in custody at this facility, it’s vital that you act quickly.  Criminal investigators won’t waste any time trying to coax incriminating statements out of your loved one, and prosecutors won’t waste any time building a case after charges have been formally filed.

If your friend, spouse, relative, girlfriend or boyfriend is in custody at Weber Correctional Facility, he or she needs an experienced defense attorney on their side.  Criminal lawyer Darwin Overson has more than 16 years of experience representing Utahans charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses, including assault, theft, DUI, drug possession, burglary, robbery, rape, homicide, and weapons crimes.

How to Bail Someone Out of the Weber County Jail (Weber Correctional Facility)

Most pretrial detainees are eligible to be released on bail.  Bail usually involves making a payment, but in cases where detainees qualify for “Release on Recognizance” (abbreviated as OR or ROR), bail is cost-free.  The ideal ROR candidate is someone who has demonstrable community ties (such as employment at a local business), is not at high risk for fleeing or failing to appear in court (“bail-jumping”), and will not endanger public safety.

Otherwise, it may be possible to lower the bail amount by requesting a bail reduction hearing.  Excessive bail is against the law, so if you feel that the amount is unreasonable or disproportionate to the alleged offense, you should talk to a defense lawyer right away.  Don’t assume you are stuck with the initial bail amount that has been set.

If your loved one does not qualify for ROR, you will have to either post bail yourself, or add funds to your loved one’s account so that they can bail themselves out.   You may post bail at the jail, which is located at the following address:

721 West 12th Street
Ogden, UT 84404

You should bring the exact bail amount, because the jail will not be able to make change for you.

The jail will release a detainee as soon as possible once bail has been posted, though it may take a few hours depending on how busy the facility is when you arrive.  Release begins around 5:00 P.M. each day.

If you need directions or have any questions about what to expect from the bail process, you can call the jail at (801) 778-6700.

Contact Information for Bail Bond Companies in Ogden, UT

Bail may be “cash-only” or “bondable.”  If it is cash-only, you must pay using cash and cannot use a bond.  However, bonds are allowed for bondable offenses.

If you use a bail bond, you will be charged a small, non-refundable portion of the full bail amount, usually 10% to 15%.  For example, if bail has been set at $10,000, your payment would be $1,000 to $1,500.  In some situations, you may be required to put down collateral, such as jewelry, a vehicle, or a piece of real property.  You could potentially be sued by the bail company if your loved one fails to appear in court; but if you are confident this will not be an issue, a bail bond can be a very convenient and affordable way to have your loved one released from the jail.
